Flying shoes

My bags are packed, I said good byes and reached the airport. I am wearing my beaten up birks and a heart that is about to bust with expectations. The first flight got cancelled and my team and I had to wait out 6 hours.

Thankfully we are still close to home and we have vehicles to change the scenery and kill the time.

I made phone calls to set into motion the help we needed with re-scheduling flights and maybe accommodations. I have texts and calls coming in every minute and all I ask is prayers. My heart beats faster. The adrenaline rushes up to my head and stress wants to take over me.

But I resist that temptation and keep repeating in my head: cool, calm, collective…”Your ways Lord, not my ways.”

There are nine of us making the journey to Villa Hortencia 2 in the northwest mountains in Guatemala. This is my third trip and some of my best friends are with me. I have been waiting half a year for this trip. We spent months praying, fundraising and dreaming about this time.

After a few calls and help of amazing people I am sure My Creator purposefully put into our path, we reached Toronto late in the night. The airport area is filled with people dressed in costumes which made us feel right at home. We are so tired we look like a cartoonish version of ourselves.

We were supposed to arrive in Guatemala City tonight but we are in Toronto. This is the perfect plan God has for us. Our partner in Guatemala gave us word that we will be right back on schedule when we arrive tomorrow around noon time.

I am flying to Miami as I write this. The night was short but I am equally excited and expectant for what God has in store for our journey. I cannot wait to meet new people and see the familiar faces of my Guatemalan family.

Something happens when I fully depend on God, wear my serving shoes and offer my willing hands. Love seems easier to DO and my life feels so much purposeful.

Cannot wait to hit the road and walk on the shoes of His Grace and have the incredible privilege to serve and love His people.

Put on your praying shoes and walk with me!

Do Love and Shoes!
